Wound protection with lanolin
In 1904, Max Riese, owner of a small drug store in Rhöndorf, Germany, invented a new type of wound protection for delicate baby skin: PENATEN® Creme with natural lanolin. Today, it’s the classic product in the range of one of the most successful brands in Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health Care. Both tradition and scientific progress have shaped the history of PENATEN® in equal measure. The product line has been continuously expanded to include products that build on these ideals – including bath gels and essences, oils and baby wipes. All innovations and new developments are based on scientific findings. The PENATEN® advisory board – an independent committee of physicians, professors, pediatric nurses and midwives – provides important expert knowledge for these developments. Thanks to our in-depth research, PENATEN® stands for the highest quality products, and is recommended by experts throughout Germany. For example, over 90 percent of all maternity hospitals recommend that parents use Penaten to care for their newborns.
For over 50 years, O.B.® has given women all over the world a little more freedom. Gynecologist Dr. Judith Esser served as a medical advisor in the development of O.B.®. The brand name is short for “ohne Binde” (without sanitary pads). To this day, it represents a free and light-hearted attitude towards life – right throughout the menstrual cycle. In Germany, O.B.® is the undisputed market leader in tampons. The perfect product is available for every individual need and phase of menstruation – from O.B.® Mini to O.B.® Super Plus. The tampons are primarily made of pure rayon, a raw material that has been proven throughout decades and adheres to the European Pharmacopoeia (EAB) purity requirements for cotton wool. In clinical studies, O.B.® has been repeatedly proven to be hygienically and medically flawless.
Johnson & Johnson Medical is market leader in the area of surgical nets – known as “meshes.” They are used everywhere where natural tissue has weakened, for example, in the lower abdomen following a hernia or in the female pelvic floor as a result of urinary incontinence. The net materials must comply with the highest standards as some nets take on important, life-long tasks, whereas others need to dissolve in the body after a short amount of time. Johnson & Johnson Medical has successfully developed these materials in close cooperation with surgeons. To more effectively utilize the resources for the research, development and manufacture of new nets and applications, the company founded the Worldwide Mesh Technology Center in Norderstedt, Germany, in 2008. The goal of this high-tech facility is to bring at least one groundbreaking innovation to market maturity each year in order to further expand Johnson & Johnson’s leading position.
