Johnson & Johnson accompanies Flavio Völlm to the Special Olympics World Summer Games

On 14-21 March, the Special Olympics World Summer Games are taking place in Abu Dhabi. More than 7000 athletes from over 170 countries will come together to compete but also to celebrate the empowerment of people with intellectual disabilities through sport.

The participation in the World Summer Games is a unique highlight for all Special Olympics athletes in their sports career.

The Swiss delegation consists of over 60 athletes who will represent Switzerland in 12 different sports. As a national partner of Special Olympics Switzerland and a delegation partner of Team Switzerland Johnson & Johnson met up with Flavio Völlm, one of the tennis players, to take the pulse on his emotions before the big event.

Flavio plays in Procap Sport Zug and has been part of Special Olympics since 2012. He has already participated in several competitions, such as the National Summer Games in Geneva last year. However, the World Summer Games are the biggest so far.

How are you preparing for the World Summer Games?
I have tennis practice every Monday. We’ve also had training camps together with the other athletes and with the delegation from Liechtenstein.

What is your goal in Abu Dhabi?
To bring home a gold medal. And to have fun!

Special Olympics aims to foster inclusion and to inspire people to open their hearts to a wider world of human talents and potential. Johnson & Johnson’s partnership with Special Olympics Switzerland is a way to demonstrate their common belief in equal opportunities and inclusion of everyone.

We wish Flavio and Team Switzerland all the best of luck in Abu Dhabi!
