Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Johnson & Johnson sets a sign for equality and equal opportunities!

Share

June was all about the LGBT+ community (LGBT+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, quer and other spectrums of sexuality). Usually, during this month, groups of people from around the world march through the streets to celebrate the achievements of the LGBT+ community and to set an example for equal opportunities.

During Pride Month, Johnson & Johnson was setting a sign against LGBT+ discrimination and other minorities. Next to our rainbow flags at the different sites in Switzerland and across the Globe, we lit up our Campus Zug building in rainbow colors for a whole week.

A clear position is important

«We live in times where it is important to have a clear position and to communicate it unambiguously», says Manùela Arnold of Johnson & Johnson. The Business Director Switzerland who is responsible for Diversity & Inclusion emphasizes: «Unfortunately, there is still a lot to be done in terms of equality, equal opportunities and inclusion - especially for the LGBT+ community.»
Johnson & Johnson has firmly anchored the topic of Diversity & Inclusion in the company's Credo. «The topic is very close to our hearts and is not only a priority for us, but something we actually live in practice,» emphasizes Manùela Arnold.

Respectful environment

Johnson & Johnson strives to create a respectful environment for all employees, where individuality and diversity have a place. The company recognized very early that innovation is not the result of individuals, but rather the result of the interaction of diverse perspectives. Johnson & Johnson's active Open & Out Employee Resource Group (ERG) creates an additional environment where employees can exchange ideas and seek support on LGBT+ topics.

Through various initiatives, the Group encourages all colleagues to engage in dialogue and provides resources to encourage all to become long-term supporters – so-called Allies – who are actively engaged. These groups are an important partner in raising awareness of Diversity & Inclusion topics, initiating change and setting priorities. Various internal corporate programs are also used to raise employees' awareness of the value of diversity. Among other things, programs are offered to identify and minimize unconscious bias.
