Automation technician

As an electrical workshop, we look after the entire power distribution in the plant. As we are a medium-voltage user, the apprentice learns about the installation and maintenance of transformer stations, emergency power systems, UPS systems and emergency lighting systems. The apprentice will assist us in the maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems for building services, such as heating/cooling and ventilation systems, as well as production systems. To meet the production requirements for the systems and room conditions, regular calibrations, and maintenance work must be carried out. The apprentice will assist with calibrations and checks on measuring equipment for pressure, temperature, humidity, flow, speed, conductivity and pH under supervision, the apprentice carries out repairs and control measurements on systems and equipment.

At our company, the automation technician belongs to the Elec/Cal department. That means the energy supply, as well as the calibrations are taught to them here. They will be transferred internally to the mechanical materials processing, building services, automation, and projects departments according to a transfer plan.

As a member of the training association for industrial apprenticeships in the Schaffhausen region (avil.ch), the apprentice is transferred to other companies for 3-month training blocks to learn further skills. Basic training and inter-company courses take place at Wibilea (wibilea.ch). School lessons take place at the Vocational Training Center of the Canton of Schaffhausen.

Above all, a student must have an interest in technical contexts. Mathematics and physics should be among the strengths. Also, the ability to imagine things spatially. Manual dexterity is needed and like to work in a team. One must not have a color vision deficiency and there must be a high sense of responsibility since the handling of electricity involves a high degree of danger.

We look forward to the new daily experiences of our future trainees.
